Business Development Manager

Hours of work: 37.5 per week (fixed term for 1 year subject to funding)
Salary: £35,000
Holiday entitlement: 26 days annual leave plus statutory bank holidays

Based at: Accommodation Concern HQ, Kettering, Northamptonshire
Accountable to: Chief Executive Officer
Direct reports: Rough Sleeper and Tenancy Support teams


Working closely with the CEO to develop opportunities for Accommodation Concern to develop and become a leading & sustainable homelessness and anti-poverty charity across the new North Northamptonshire Unitary Authority.

  • To source new properties for supported accommodation and identify new income streams
  • To project manage new initiatives and funded programmes are required
  • To manage the Outreach and Tenancy Support teams
  • To be responsible for the marketing strategy of the charity including the website
  • To develop and maintain relationships with partner organisations
  • Deputise for the Chief Exec as required

Main responsibilities:

  1. Identify and establish new opportunities for expanding Accommodation Concerns supported accommodation portfolio and advice centre
  2. Preparation of feasibility study reports on identified projects for the CEO
  3. Provide monitoring and evaluation of projects as required, including statistical reports, written reports, case studies and any other relevant feedback
  4. Support the CEO in the preparation and submission of funding bids/business plans and required reporting
  5. Work in conjunction with the CEO to ensure that each project is delivered on time and to budget
  6. Develop, build and maintain excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, funders, relevant voluntary sectors and statutory agencies, nurturing partnerships, creating opportunities and representing the charity and external meetings as appropriate
  7. Ensure all AC’s supported accommodation properties are all managed to the highest standards, within budget and meeting person centred targets for the residents
  8. Line manage Rough Sleeper Outreach and Tenancy Support teams, ensuring timely supervision and appraisals
  9. To be responsible for the marketing strategy of the charity including the website and ensure all brand guidelines are adhered to
  10. To support the CEO for the implementation of all Health & Safety requirements across the organisation
  11. Ensure the implementation of all policies and working practices
  12. Deputise for the CEO as required
  13. To undertake all relevant administrative tasks as necessary
  14. To adhere to the charity’s policy and procedure, including safeguarding reporting, interventions and disclosures
  15. To attend meetings and training as necessary
  16. Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Charity Manager

Annual objectives will be set for this role which will be used to monitor and evaluate performance within the appraisal system.

Experience of managing a budget and achieving agreed income targets
Proven track record of developing new relationships
Previous experience of managing a team.
Experience of developing marketing and business plans
Experience of quality assurance systems and action planning
Experience of risk assessment processes
Experience of working in a supported living environment
Experience/knowledge of the homeless sector, debt or the advice sector
Experience of working in the voluntary sector
